Hello, World

Welcome to the dev blog for my game Pandemonium!

The dev blog is born on the first day of 2024.

I am an indie game developer with over 15 years of experience making serious and casual games. I have a passion for large, open world games and always envisioned one day creating my own world. I have always admired Brad McQuaid and the EverQuest series and have dreamt of following in his footsteps and building my own epic world. So, I've decided to do it. No more waiting. Pandemonium has officially started development today. I just built the site and registered the domain today. I will be keeping track of my progress on the game here as a way to keep myself motivated to see my vision through.

I have been thinking about creating my own MMORPG for quite some time and I am now pursuing this idea seriously. I had two weeks of vacation time in December and I spent them setting up the Unreal project and the global settings for the game world. I also imported key frameworks that will be used to develop the game. I am ready to start development of the gameplay mechanics and creation the realm itself.

I have a ton of concepts already in the works for the game itself. Here is a sample of the direction I am leaning for the game world itself:

I have also started working on a modular character creation system that will be the basis of all playable entities in the game.

My goal is to have a playable demo of the game by the end of 2024. This includes all of the base gameplay mechanics, combat system, vendors, loot tables, and quests. Since this is an ambitious goal, I am going to use this blog to document my progress as a way to keep myself focused and accountable to the game's progress.

As I write this the first commit is uploading to Perforce and the journey is about to begin.

2024 will be the year the demo is released and I start to gather feedback. I am stoked and ready to bring my vision to life!

And now I venture into the realm of Aradune, a tribute to Brad's work, the impact it has had on my gaming career, and his muse that inspired this game.

Cheers, Vinny
